Bauler
Park, on Wisconsin and Cleveland, is a magnet for families
with young children. Swings, slides and a paved area
ideal for biking and roller skating attract scores of
children in fine weather. Bauler is also a splendid
site for neighborhood gatherings. This year, the Bauler
Park Advisory Council hosted two events that attracted
hundreds of residents.

Movie
Night a Smash Hit with Kids. Parents, too.
The
big screen drew a big crowd on July 21 as Bauler supporters
co-hosted movie night with the Chicago Park District. Families
put aside their dinner and bedtime routines to mingle with
neighbors, picnic and watch "The Water Horse: Legend
of the Deep," the story of a lonely boy who discovers
a mysterious egg that hatches a sea creature of Scottish legend.
Prior to showtime, Mr. Singer, a favorite performer of regulars
to the Farm in the Zoo, led the kids in song and dance. Bug-eyed
children stared in amazement as a crew inflated the giant
movie screen. They then lined up for free popcorn provided
by the Park District. Monies for our park maintenance fund
were generated through a fund-raising raffle. Winning entrants
received gift certificates and other prizes donated by the
Old Town School of
Folk Music, Emerald
City Theatre, The
Kids' Table, KinderCone and Tres
Bien Nail Salon.
A Halloween Party to Behold
Children
and adults donned their costumes to kick-off Halloween celebrations
on Oct. 25 at a free party for children seven years old
and younger. Families sang and danced with Mr. Singer and
queued up for balloon creations from Steven Glick. Alderman
Vi Daley and LCA member Janet Owen distributed prizes for
best costumes, a difficult task indeed with hundreds of adorable
princesses, superheroes and animals in attendance. Click
here to view party pictures. Creative children decorated mini pumpkins
and assembled spooky Halloween door hangers. Neighborhood
volunteers distributed candy and small toys to trick-or-treaters,
and supervised face painting and potato sack races. As people
stopped at the LCA info table to learn more about our efforts,
children were encouraged to guess how many candies were in
a jar - and 18-month old Eli Curran was the proud winner of
764 pieces of candy corn and M&Ms.
