Welcome to the Lincoln Central Association.
We are an organization, which serves as an advocate for the improvement and preservation of our neighborhood. We empower residents by giving them a voice in their community. We monitor and are engaged in our parks, zoning, development, crime and other important issues. Our area is bounded by Halsted Street, Lincoln Avenue, North Avenue and the ghost of Ogden Avenue.
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Richard "Dickie" Harris, a long time Lincoln Park resident. Richard wore many hats: lawyer, real estate investor and preservationist, playwright, talent manager, producer, advertising genius. He had been creative director at Foote Cone Belding and group creative director at Ogilvy & Mather, though his ad man heart belonged to Leo Burnett. Dickie was playwright in residence at St. Nicholas Players Theatre Company. His plays were performed at the Organic Theatre Company and read at Victory Gardens Theater, Steppenwolf Theater and Goodman Theatre. For all his professional accomplishments, Dickie's greatest achievement was the way in which he lived his life: each day a celebration. His intelligence, wit, grace and friendly warmth will be forever missed. Our hearts go out to those dearest to him: the love of his life, wife Patty O’Neill Harris, and children Olivia, Huston and Wyatt. Dickie was a true preservationist: buying, restoring and saving buildings within our community. The Gemini restaurant building at Dickens and Lincoln, with its terra cotta facade, is one of Dickie’s restorations. Dickie was a devoted and resourceful member of the Lincoln Central Association board and its zoning and planning committee. Dickie was founder of The Dickens Fest, and annual street celebration that features music, food and fun for all ages. It is to be held this Saturday, September 14 from noon to 10 pm at Lincoln Avenue and Dickens Street. We in Lincoln Park have lost an advocate, a neighbor, a friend. RIP, Dickie.
